Guidelines for Authors

RULES FOR SUBMISSION OF MANUSCRIPTS

When forwarding the manuscript the information that allows the identification of the authors in the properties of the word.doc file must be erased.

MULTIPLE AUTHORSHIP

Articles with a maximum of 4 (four) authors will be accepted for evaluation. Papers with more than 4 authors will be rejected.

PRESENTATION OF THE MANUSCRIPTS

The articles must present in the initial page the title of the article (with no more than 14 words) in 3 (three) languages: Portuguese (bold, centered, size 12), English (normal, centered, size 12) and Spanish (normal, centered, size 12), without identification of the authors in the text of the article or in the file sent.

Abstract

The abstract must be written in three languages: Portuguese (resumo), English (abstract) and Spanish (resumen). The title must be in size 12, bold and justified, single spaced (1.0).

The text of the abstract must be written in Times New Roman, size 12, justified, single spaced, maximum of 250 words and must be accompanied by keywords, being 3 (three) at most, separated by comma ",".

 GENERAL OBSERVATIONS ABOUT ARTICLE STRUCTURE AND NORMS

Structure: The article should be presented in word format, 1.5 line spacing, Times New Roman, size 12. Times New Roman, size 12. The text should mandatorily have the following structural parts (including references, tables and figures, if applicable): Introduction (without subtopics); Theoretical framework (with subtopics); Method (identify subsections: participants, instruments or materials and procedures); Results; Discussion (including conclusion) and References. Depending on the type of article, it may follow other specifications (see structure of text subtypes below).

Manuscript length: between 35,000 and 45,000 characters with spaces, for the articles in the Dossier and Articles sections (including the abstract, footnotes and, at most, one page of essential bibliography); between 10 and 20 thousand characters with spaces for the "Reports and reflections" section; up to 3,500 characters with spaces for the "Reviews, theses and dissertations" section.

Margins: Manuscripts should have 2.5 margins, top, bottom, right and left.  

Tables: they must be inserted in the body of the text, numbered sequentially and with the proper indication of source and/or authorship.

Graphs: must follow the same guidelines of the tables. To avoid compromising the aesthetic standard of the Journal and the digitalization process, the graphs should also be sent in Excel.

Figures, photos and illustrations: must be sequentially numbered and sent in high resolution in separate files.

The first time acronyms or abbreviations are mentioned, indicate their equivalence in full. Do not use acronyms and abbreviations in the abstract or title of the article.

TYPES OF PUBLISHED TEXTS

Original articles: papers resulting from theoretical (narrative review of the literature or meta-analysis) or empirical (qualitative or quantitative) research on social issues. They should comprise 15 to 25 pages (including abstracts, references, tables and figures). They should obligatorily have the following structural parts (including references, tables and figures, if applicable): Introduction (without subtopics); Theoretical framework (with subtopics); Method (identify subsections: participants, instruments or materials and procedures); Results; Discussion (including conclusion) and References.

The articles may also conform to the following subcategories, and in all cases they may be between 15 and 25 pages long:

- Theoretical articles: with critical analysis of current topics. The authors should explain the development of the theory and how it serves to expand concepts, present new theory or critically analyse an existing theory. The structure of this type of article may vary as to order and content. It is mandatory to contain: introduction (may contain subtopics), development (with themes and subtopics) and conclusion.

- Review articles: based on literature review and state of the art. Obligatory structure: Introduction (without subtopics); Literature review (with subtopics); Method (criteria used for the delimitation of the material analysed, procedures for collecting documentary data and analysis procedures); Results; Discussion (including conclusion) and References.

- Case study articles: resulting from a case study. It should obey the following structure: Introduction (without subtopics); Theoretical framework (with subtopics); Method (characterization of the case under analysis, evaluation and intervention procedures); Results; Discussion of the case (including conclusion) and References.

Laboratory Experience Report: manuscript that describes the process of accomplishment of a laboratory experience with relevant or innovative results (technical, methodological or other), where the conditions of accomplishment of the reported experience and results are precisely indicated (12 to 25 pages).

 Professional experience report (internship, pedagogical practice, etc.): article that presents a description of individual or collective experience of a specific intervention proposal, that makes the counterpoint theory/practice and indicates precisely the conditions of the reported experience (12 to 25 pages).

Interview: Report of an interview conducted with National and International researchers of great scientific relevance to the field of Education. The evaluation is done by the Editorial Board and the Executive Team (05 to 15 pages).

 RULES FOR THE PRESENTATION OF THE MANUSCRIPT

EVALUATION PROCESS

The evaluation is carried out by an Editorial Board of experts, by double blind.

The analysis of the manuscript begins after the correct completion of the required fields on the platform. If guidelines are not met the text will be returned and the second time archived. If the submission is incomplete it will not be considered.

Texts may be written in Portuguese, Spanish, or English, but the journal may require its translation.

EVALUATION STAGES

The evaluation process of the manuscripts submitted to RSS follows 5 (five) phases: Screening, Blind Review, Editing and Publication.

Screening: this phase begins with the submission of the manuscript by the author(s). Here the journal makes an initial check to see if the article follows the journal's guidelines and meets the standards. If this is not the case, the article is returned to the authors and they are asked to make the necessary adjustments. Once it has passed through the screening stage, it is ready to move on to the next phase.

Blind peer review: the article is submitted to blind peer review, which may be single or double view. In case of undecided or tied opinions, the article is sent to a third evaluator to give his opinion. The result is communicated to the authors and, in case corrections are needed, a deadline is set for the authors to adapt the article.

The blinded evaluation is done according to the following guidelines: Adequacy of the title to the content of the text; Relevance, coherent development of the text and creativity of the formulations; Structure, quality of the written content and adequacy of the theoretical contribution; Language: spelling, concordance, references, coherence and cohesion and Additional comments that the evaluator finds important.

At the end of the evaluation the following opinions can be given: Approved; Approved with restrictions, or compulsory corrections and Rejected.

Revision: this phase occurs when the article has already been accepted and needs adjustments that may be of the structure, text, content, or other aspects suggested by the evaluators or text revisers.

Editing: final phase in which the text is prepared by the editing team for publication in the number or issue of the journal in which the article was inserted.

Publication: last phase in which the text is finally made publicly available on the journal's website.

Revista realidade social does not charge submission and publication fees to authors, nor access fees to readers, keeping its articles free.
