Abstract

The aim of this dissertation is to reflect on the theme of School Failure Factors: a study carried out at Árvore do Conhecimento Primary School No. 84, in the 2016/2017 school year. School failure is generally referred to as the failure to pass a particular class. We took a step back in history and presented the explanatory theories of school failure. These theories showed us that school failure is the result of a negative relationship between children's expectations and the school's dominant culture. The path followed was that of listening: we listened to the subjects of our research, who are the principal, the teachers and the students, on the subject of the Factors of School Failure in primary education. They say that in order to mitigate school failure in primary education at the school under analysis, it is necessary to: increase class sizes in order to do away with outdoor classrooms; implement pre-school; create more recreational conditions for pupils; create more meetings with parents; reward teachers well and train them periodically with seminars. We have analyzed these statements and the facts mentioned, and at the end we make suggestions for improving the situation of school failure.
