Abstract

This article aims to discuss the various statutes of the Portuguese language in Angola and to present a proposal for teaching the subject in the initial training of Portuguese teachers at teacher training institutions in Angola, with a view to reflecting on the teaching methodology (mother tongue/second language) to be used in the various Angolan contexts. This study used a methodology based on a bibliographical review and a critical and reflective reading of the regulations governing the various statutes of the Portuguese language in Angola. The conclusion is that the Portuguese language in Angola can be an individual's mother tongue or second language, so the choice of methodology for teaching it must take this fact and the teaching context into account.
