Abstract

This article aims to describe how the Pulmonology League of the Federal University of Health Sciences of Porto Alegre (UFCSPA) adapted its activities in order to face the COVID-19 pandemic and ensure its social responsibility as a university extension. In addition to the internal activities, two interventions open to the external community stood out in terms of impact and reach. The first was a partnership with the Núcleo de Inclusão e Diversidade in a cycle of online debates with a simultaneous translator in Libras on the Instagram platform, bringing to the population information made by experts about COVID-19. In an environment of integration between scientific and popular knowledge, guidelines were carried out on clarifying doubts, changes in the approach to asthma, COPD and smoking with the COVID-19 pandemic and living on the front line against the new coronavirus. The second intervention was the Respiratory Emergencies Symposium, on the YouTube platform. As main results, we highlight the adaptation of activities from face-to-face to virtual, a significant increase in access and followers to the League's page, carrying out actions with international reach and sharing the League's experience at an international event.
