The contribution of higher education institutions in the perception of residents of adjacent communities about university extension

Abstract

The university extension allows Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) to reach the communities to reaffirm their academic practice, spreading the knowledge of which they are the owners. From this perspective, as a process, it favors the integration between the academic community and the surrounding communities, thus, supported by an exchange of knowledge carried out through programs, projects, events, among others, in which residents who produce popular knowledge and academics participate. that produce and apply science. In this sense, the purpose of the article is to analyze the contribution of HEIs based on the perception of residents of adjacent communities about university extension. For this purpose, in order to put the referred theoretical knowledge into practice, this study is of a comprehensive and analytical nature with a qualitative approach where it focused on deepening the understanding of the adjacent communities of the HEIs in the municipality of Talatona. However, the results demonstrate the little involvement of HEIs in communities and the need to value extension and its inseparability in relation to teaching and research is assumed.
